Borglum in Texas (1991) by Valentine J. Poska. UTSA Libraries Special Collections.

Highlights

  • Mexican Porfiriato Cookery Manuscripts 1900-1928 of Hortensia Volante.
    • This collection of 10 manuscript recipe books written in school notebooks includes a variety of Mexican recipes, as well as some French ones, from the early 20th century. Like the previously-acquired series of six manuscript cookbooks from Durango, Mexico, Volante’s recipe books provide a glimpse of household cookery among the well-off during the period surrounding the Mexican Revolution.
  • Stars Over Texas (1987) and Borglum in Texas (1991)
    • Two fine press miniature books by Valentine J. Poska, published by Windcrest Press in San Antonio. Stars over Texas honors Texans in Hollywood. Borglum in Texas was printed in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the dedication of Mount Rushmore. Danish-American sculptor Gutzon Borglum, creator of the Mount Rushmore sculptures, lived in Texas for many years.
