Highlights
  • Through Texas. A Series of Interesting Letters (1892) by Walter B. Stevens.Stevens, a correspondent for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat provides information on many areas and aspects of Texas, with a focus on agricultural and ranching opportunities for those considering immigration to the state.
  •  A Tour in Mexico (1902) by Mrs. James Edwin Morris.Morris’ second travel volume, the first being A Pacific Coast Vacation, published a year earlier.  This volume includes chapters on Louisiana and Texas, in addition to those on various part of Mexico, and is illustrated by more than seventy photographic illustrations of monuments, landscapes, and everyday life.
  • Diary of a Trip through Mexico and California(1887) by John Henry Coffin Church.Massachusetts businessman John Henry Coffin Church wrote this book documenting his travels across the North American continent in the 1890s, making stops in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.  While in Texas, he visited Galveston, Houston, San Antonio, and El Paso.
