UTSA Blood Drives
by Shannon Keith
The UTSA community has a history of helping others by donating blood. You can continue that tradition by participating in the HSF Blood Drive, which is taking place today and tomorrow outside the Convocation Center.
In the photograph below, a UTSA staff member looks on as a representative of the South Texas Regional Blood Bank prepares a student to donate blood on October 31, 1976.

Ten years later, the South Texas Regional Blood Bank held another blood drive amid fears of the recently discovered AIDS epidemic. The Paisano reassured potential blood donors that they could not contract AIDS by donating blood. Read The Paisano’s articles on blood donation and AIDS on UTSA’s digital collections.
In 1991, The Paisano and The Student Health Center sponsored a blood drive to support troupes fighting in Operation Desert Storm.
