New Grants worth $22,000 Awarded to Special Collections

The UTSA Libraries’ Special Collections recently received two grants to support collection access and document the city’s unique architecture. The first, from the University of North TexasPortal to Texas History, will digitize nine books related to German Immigration to Texas, along with portions of three African-American collections: playwright Sterling Houston, activist Mario Marcel Salas, and the San Antonio Chapter of Links, a women’s service organization.

The second, a National Endowment for the Arts “We the People Grant” from Humanities Texas in cooperation with the College of Architecture, will train graduate students to conduct oral histories with individuals associated with mid-century modern architecture in the city, and host a public event featuring portions of the interviews.
