Welcome to Our New Intern!

June 10, 2009
Amy Estes
The Archives happily announces an addition to our staff: our new Archives Intern, Amy Estes. Amy is a senior in Art & Art History at UTSA. She will be curating a new online exhibit from UTSA Archives collections on the theme of San Antonio women’s “firsts,” scheduled to go live in the fall. The exhibit will feature such leading ladies as…
  • Hattie Elam Briscoe, first Black woman to graduate from St. Mary’s University School of Law
  • Lila Cockrell, first woman mayor of San Antonio
  • Laura Burleson Negley, first woman from Bexar County elected to the Texas Legislature
  • Ginger Purdy, founder of the San Antonio Women’s Chamber of Commerce
  • Fay Sinkin, a woman of so many firsts that we could do an entire exhibit on her alone!

Amy will also be processing the papers of San Antonio writer and AAUW member Vaughan Douglass.

Welcome to the Archives, Amy!
