I am one of two Library Assistants at the UTSA Archives and have worked here a little over a year and a half. I assist the department head and archivists with administrative work and other projects and provide reference assistance as well. I also work closely with the Library’s preservation specialist.
I attended Coastal Bend College in Beeville before transferring to Texas State University in San Marcos, where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 2006. While at Coastal Bend College, I trained and worked as a phlebotomist. I worked in the Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State for about a year. I decided then that I would like to make working in a library a full time job. I also worked as a substitute teacher for three years. After graduation, I worked at San Antonio Public Library for about eight months as a Library Aid before coming to work at the Archives.
Working at the Archives has been quite a unique experience. Not many people know exactly what an archive is and it is always fun to explain to them what it is and what we do. There are many reasons I love my job and processing is probably one of the things I enjoy most about it. Through processing, I’m able to learn about many local and interesting people, organizations, and events here in the San Antonio area while preserving and making them available to the researchers.
