Carter Family Acquisition
A significant archival collection of a prominent San Antonio and South Texas family is being donated to the Archives and Special Collections at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Documenting five generations of the Cater family, the collection consists of correspondence, notebooks, diaries, newsclippings, photographs and a manuscript of historical fiction depicting life in San Antonio of Sarah Riddle, the first Anglo-American girl born in San Antonio.
“We are pleased that the UTSA Archives and Special Collections will be the repository for this important collection,” said Dr. David R. Johnson, interim Dean of the UTSA Library and Vice-Provost for Academic and Faculty Support. “There is no doubt the collection will be tremendous resources for historians and other researching 19th and 20th century San Antonio as it was experienced and described by the Carter family.”
